SDBKALogo75x72x32col   SDBKA Bulletin #37:  26th October 2016

Annual General Meeting, Monday 31st October.

We haven't met for a while so the Committee is looking forward to seeing you at the AGM next Monday, which starts the Autumn/Winter programme of meetings for 2016/17. The Agenda is attached. The Guest speaker is Dr. Jennifer Dunne from Scarborough Museum. In her talk ‘Gristhorpe Man: a 4,000 year old warrior? ’ she will be telling us about the findings from the latest research into the life and times of the bronze age Yorkshireman discovered in a field at Gristhorpe. If you've been to the Rotunda Museum, strongly recommended (unless you are frightened of dinosaurs) you will have seen his impressive and fully intact bones and wooden coffin.

Election of new Chairman.

Dr Alan Walker is standing down as Chairman having served for the three years which our constitution sets as the maximum. The AGM will therefore need to elect a new Chairman to lead the Branch for the next three years. There has been one nomination so far and that is Stephen Muchow who was Secretary before me and has been on the Committee for six years. If there are any further nominations please let me know before the AGM.

Asian Hornets.

You will probably have been following developments with two confirmed sightings of colonies in Gloucestershire and the Mendips both of which which have been destroyed by DEFRA. I have not been able to find anything more recent on this but you may be interested to see this clip from the BBC and the guidance from the National Bee Unit.

Donegal Bargains.

Don't know if they are but you might be interested in this new, to me anyway, source of equipment. Sale details attached.

Best wishes,

Keep going towards Whitby, joining the  A171at the Fox & Rabbit, and after passing Fylingdales on the right look out for a wide track on the left just before the hairpin bend at Eller Beck Bridge. There is a Yorkshire Wildlife Trust sign for Fen Bog. Park at the side of the track. Meet at the gate. Bring mobile picnic as it will be nicer to have it down the lane a couple of hundred yards.

Autumn Programme.

The Autumn Programme has been finalised and is attached. Special attractions:-  4,000 year old Yorkshireman at the AGM, the new format Scarborough Honey Fair, where you get to taste and judge (Entry classes, rules and entry form attached) and the unique Annual Bee Drive.
